Itinerary:
Day 1: City tour of Lima
We will begin this tour with a panoramic view of the archaeological site known as Huaca Pucllana, a magnificent ceremonial center built in the 4th century BC and considered a “sacred city” by the Incas. Then, we will continue our tour by visiting the historic center of Lima, where we will see more than fifty colonial-era buildings, including those on Paseo de la República, Plaza San Martín, the main square or Plaza Mayor, as well as the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, the City Hall, and Lima’s cathedral. We will then visit the Museum of the Central Reserve Bank (closes Sundays and Mondays), where we will view the “Treasures of Peru Collection”, an exhibition featuring gold, pottery and textile objects from a number of Pre-Columbian cultures. We will also visit San Francisco, which houses the most important exhibition of colonial religious art in America, and venture into the subterranean crypts known as “catacombs”.
