Day 1: Valley of the Moon – Tres Marías [“The Three Marys”] – Salt Mountain Range – Coyote Stone.
We will begin our tour by departing from the center of San Pedro de Atacama and heading into the Salt Mountains in the Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth, where we will visit one of the most picturesque locations in the region, the Valley of the Moon. The name of this location offers a clue to the character of the landscape: here, rock formations formed by erosion dominate the scenery, together with layers of salt, while all around the views will make you feel like you’re on another planet. We will cross this valley, visiting the famous rock formations known as the Three Marys, the Canyon, the Amphitheater and Coyote Stone. To end our tour, we’ll enjoy the sunset from a natural viewing point, where you’ll be able to see how the desert changes color, with enormous volcanoes on the horizon contributing to a spectacle that will leave you speechless.
