Itinerary:
Day 1: Tatio geysers and village of Machuca (4323 meters above sea level)
For the tour of the Tatio geysers, we will leave in the early hours of the morning from San Pedro de Atacama and head into the high plains, climbing the hills and mountains of the Andes. After a 1½ hour drive, we will arrive at the geysers, one of the world’s truly unique spectacles, with 80 steaming geysers situated at 4200 meters above sea level. While enjoying this natural setting, we’ll eat a nourishing breakfast, before setting off to explore the geothermal field, surrounded by several columns of smoke. Returning to San Pedro de Atacama, we will stop at the Putana River to observe the native flora and fauna of the area, and later in our journey we’ll stop at the village of Machuca, where it is possible to buy llama meat served kebab-style, empanadas, and other typical local foods.
