Itinerary:
Day 1: Cusco – Puerto Maldonado
Transfer to Cusco airport and flight to Puerto Maldonado (Peru’s biodiversity capital). Welcome from our local guide and transfer to the river port, where we will take a canoe to the lodge. After time to settle in, we will set out for a walk in the forest, where we will explore the local flora and the ways it is used, as well as searching for animals and birds. After this first experience of the Amazon forest, we will board our boat and set out on the Madre de Dios River, where we can enjoy the sunset and learn more from our guide about the river, nocturnal fauna, and the constellations.

Day 2: Trail walk to Lake Sandoval – Canoe excursion – Canopy
This day will be devoted to a variety of excursions. We will begin with a short transfer to the Tambopata National Reserve, where we will enjoy a canoe trip on Lake Sandoval, to learn more about how this lake was formed, and the efforts by the reserve to conserve the lake. After exploring the flora and fauna of the lake (including giant otters and black caimans) by canoe, we will continue to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretive Center. Here, we will learn more about construction and conservation projects. Then, we will climb a 30-meter tower and venture onto a canopy walk in the treetops. This will be followed by a 30-minute trail walk, crossing wooden bridges over waterways. We will learn about the many species of amphibians, snakes, birds and mammals.

Day 3: Boat trip – Botanical Garden
We will take a canoe to the starting point of our excursion to Quebrada Gamitana. We will arrive at a waterfall where species include piranhas, caimans, turtles and many birds. From Sanipanga we will travel for one hour by canoe to the Gaminata model ranch. We will walk through this ranch and take the opportunity to make our own banana flour. After boarding our canoe once more, followed by a short drive by vehicle, we will arrive at Hacienda Concepción, where we will explore the botanical garden for around one hour, to learn more about local flora. Finally, we will set off on a nocturnal exploration, during which we will hear the sounds of the forest and learn more about local wildlife.

Day 4: Puerto Maldonado – Lima
We will set off at dawn by boat for Puerto Maldonado, where we will visit the Butterfly House before being transferred to the airport. Flight to Lima and connecting international flight. For those guests who fly to their home countries the next day, we can organize additional services.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a yellow fever vaccination obligatory?
In the Puerto Maldonado area yellow fever and malaria are not endemic; therefore, the yellow fever vaccination is not obligatory. However, visitors are recommended to seek medical advice before traveling.

Cancellation policy:
If you cancel your booking 30 days before the scheduled start of the tour and before full payment, we will refund 100% of the amount you paid at time of booking, except the plane tickets Cusco / Puerto Maldonado and Puerto Maldonado / Lima, for which refunds will be subject to the cancellation policy of the airline. Once full payment has been made, no refunds will be available.
